I’m so looking forward to seeing what the racist assholes will come up with between now and November
May 14th, 2008 by gordo
A bar in suburban Atlanta is now selling the t-shirt depicting Barack Obama as a monkey. Of course, the bar’s owner swears that he’s not at all racist:
The T-shirts are being peddled by Marietta bar owner Mike Norman at his Mulligan’s Bar and Grill in Cobb County. They show a picture of Curious Georgie peeling a banana, with the words “Obama ‘08″ underneath.
Norman has said he got the T-shirts from someone in Arkansas. He started selling them at his bar — known for the provocative, ultra-conservative political slogans often posted on signs out front — in April but said he has no plans to mass market them. Norman acknowledged the imagery’s Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey.
His defenders are just as resolute. Mulligan’s is a refuge, they say, in an otherwise hypersensitive world. Smoking isn’t only allowed at the bar, it’s expected.
“This place is a diamond in the rough,” said Gene McKinley, a Woodstock engineer among the patrons Tuesday. “People here are genuine and honest. It’s the one place I can go without having to worry if I’m offending someone.”
Some people just can’t stand it when others find their racism offensive. They want unlimited license to cause offense, but they don’t think anyone has a right to be offended. You can see the same attitude reflected in the assholosphere.

Jeff Goldstein
Jeff Goldstein, one of the leading lights of the assholosphere, penned this racist screed as a way of making fun of the people who are offended by the racism that permeates his website:
Shannon Elizabeth: “One time, while explaining to Marlon Wayans and Method Man why it wasn’t cool for them to pin me down and smear my breasts with Coconut milk and Aveeno, I had what we sisters like to call an epiphany — namely, that I was being unfair to my Black brothers, holding back the fruits of my white privilege from the victim class like that, even if I was doing so out of, like, primal revulsion rather than out of some sort of overt and conscious racial animus.
“Because the fact is, simply by virtue of my being white, I am — constantly, inevitably– exerting white privilege, and that is in itself racism. Period.
It goes on and on in that vein. There’s no way to read that without feeling Goldstein’s racism and misogyny, and it’s made all the more creepy when you realize that Goldstein probably typed it one-handed. The blending of hatred for blacks and hatred for women comes naturally to people like Mike Norman and Jeff Goldstein. Check out one of the messages Norman put on the sign outside his bar:

This sort of thing gives me extra incentive to canvas the neighborhood for Obama. Because this election isn’t only about the war, the environment, and the economy. It’s also about the way assholes like Mike Norman and Jeff Goldstein are going to feel torn up inside because they’re forced to live in a country that has a black president.

I’m sure I’ll be excoriated here, called a Nazi, a rayyyciiisst!!! and every other ridiculous insult you people can pull out of your “Childish Conservative Insults for Dummies” handbook BUT….
How about the gazillion times you assholes have referred to George Bush as “Chimpy” and geeked up thousands of kid scrawled pictures of him with chimp ears and flapping lower lip, plastered them all over the internet, on T shirts and your autographed copies of The Communist Manifesto -huh?
You know, “Georgebushhitlerchimpnazi”?
Besides I thought you nitwits were proud of the “fact”, at least as you and the pointy heads see it, that we all have monkey ancestors anyway.
So where’s the problem, the unfairness or the racism here, particularly as the post is applied to the guiding left wing standard “Be ye always willing to sacrifice sanity for the sake of consistency”?
May 14th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Fucking idiot.
The t-shirt is pissing people off because it’s attacking Barack Obama due to his RACE. There’s no excuse for this racist crap.
When people called George Bush “monkey”, it was because they were calling him “stupid.” While calling someone stupid may not be very polite, it’s still an acceptable criticism of a sitting politician. Racism, on the other hand, ISN’T.
I hope you do get all those Republicans you worship elected. And I hope that they completely eliminate taxes — and social spending — too. That way, when a goddamn tornado, hurricane, or some other natural disaster wipes you and the rest of your backwards state out, you’ll have nowhere to turn and will be made to finally sow what you reap.
Alternatively…
I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that this Summer down there is as unbearable as the last, thereby increasing the chances you’ll get heat stroke and be rid of once and for all. And with all those bleeding-hearts gone… none will help you as you shrivel away and perish.

Hey Bedrock, this quote from the movie A Soldier’s Story might explain it to you:
We were in France in the first war; we’d won decorations. But the white boys had told all them French gals that we had tails. Then they found this ignorant colored soldier, paid him to tie a tail to his ass and run around half-naked, making monkey sounds. Put him on the big round table in the Cafe Napoleon, put a reed in his hand, crown on his head, blanket on his shoulders, and made him eat *bananas* in front of all them Frenchies. Oh, how the white boys danced that night… passed out leaflets with that boy’s picture on it. Called him Moonshine, King of the Monkeys.

I think you’d look great in one of those shirts, BRT. I’m sure it would look great with a fat lip too.
While I was never one to chimpify Bush, his America-hating family did support Hitler. I agree with Gordo, BRt, if you think it’s fair to portray Obama in this way, you should get the shirt and wear it everywhere.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:27 am
I’m not going to wear one of those shirts ray ray because, first of all, I believe it takes a pretty small mind to resort to cartoon ridicule of people-something liberals obviously excel at considering the thousands of childish cartoons portraying Bush as a chimpanzee, Cheney as Dracula and the other outrageous juvenile nonsense they flood the internet with.
Anyone that knows anything about me at all knows that I’m as far from being a racist as any of the sanctimonious idiots who post here-probably farther than most. But I knew going in that they’d call me one, because I dared to point out the obvious hypocrisy in their position that it’s just fine to call the president of the United States a murderer, blood sucker, a Nazi or a chimpanzee-but not a black politician. It’s what they thrive on-burying any legitimate complaint about their obvious double standards and their core hatred for conservatives, southerners, Christians, patriots and the military under a blanket of “Raaayciist!!” bat shit.
So-in the standard liberal diversionary tactic they employ as substitute for intelligent discourse, and apropos of absolutely nothing-Tommy trots out some obscure movie dialogue that’s supposed to “explain it to me” and Alfalfa spews out his usual babble about hoping South Carolina-a state that voted for Obama and with about a million and a half black citizens living and working in harmony with whites in a much better relationship than the northern cities I’ve lived in - is wiped out by hurricanes and tornadoes and that I die from sun stroke.
By the way, it’s “reap what you sow” Alfalfa-not the other way around.
May 15th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Wow, you really are more obtuse than I thought you were Bedrock.
The quote from the movie illustrated how blacks perceive the symbolism of being equated with monkeys and bananas, that white racists view them as nothing more than primitive savages who swung on vines from tree to tree and eating bananas.
And for the record, Alpha, your rantings about wiping out an entire state full of millions of people because you believe that Bedrock is a dick is wrong. Tone down the rhetoric please.
May 15th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Lol. You know… this site is Liberal Avenger… The Liberals here are supposed to be a good bit more aggressive in their demeanor.
But… yah, I guess toning things down a notch or so wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
May 15th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Tommykey,
I think you mis-read Alpha’s intent, in light of the increasing severity of weather that is developing in the South and Southeast as global warming continues, which BRT denies. Personally I read it to wish BRT to be victim of the policies he advocates for others specifically addressing one of his own positions as agent, and I definitely agree with Alpha that it would only be just for that to happen. I don’t normally wish misfortune on any one, but I am perfectly willing to make an exception for an exceptional asshole like BRT, not that I am wishing that fate on anybody else in this case.
Puuleeze Gawd, just one little twister on one little building in SC in the middle of the night and flappy can fly over in his aeroplane and sends us photos that it really and truly did happen… That a truly deserving asshole really and truly did reap the whirlwind. Then I would know that there is a god and that god is just!
Ok? That leaves the millions of “innocent” residents in that state out of it. But then I suppose they would just go out and hire another one anyway.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Just can’t bring yourself to use the word God with a capital G can you Prunella?
Ok by me, but your whining entreaties for my personal demise will no doubt fall on deaf ears and you’ll end up burning in Hell along with your Godless fellow moonbats Tommy and Alfalfa.
But cheer up Bucky, at least someone who truly cares will still be around to piss on the cinders……….:+)
May 15th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
You’re doing a lot to change peoples minds about the crazy racist right-wing fundies, bedrock. Way to be!
If you can’t understand the very simple difference between equating a white politician with a monkey and equating a black politician with a monkey, nothing we type here could make it clearer for you.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
We were all monkeys at one time. BRT is just still evolving.
BRT, did you move to West Virginia?
May 15th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
“It’s also about the way assholes…are going to feel torn up inside because they’re forced to live in a country that has a black president.”
I totally agree. Include in the list the nut-jobs who are so positively sure that he’s Muslim - an added scary bonus!
Which makes me fear a little for him. When he’s elected, we better double up on his Secret Service coverage, maybe even get him a Pope-mobile.
This is a great opportunity for our country to look at itself more honestly in the mirror - as long as Obama is well protected to live up to his promises.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:37 am
I put the capital G in the right place.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Obama has such massive white acceptance across the entire country that even in MS1 the racist associations didn’t bite enough to turn a general election. I am hoping that indicates that an overboard racist smear may backfire this time. The general white population may no longer be susceptible enough to that kind of excess.
The big story over everything else that I can see is that a strong black candidate has huge white support in virtually every part of the country both in votes and in fund raising.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Dont forget the countless times michell malkin was called a chink here either…..
May 16th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Why is it that if someone is half black and half white that they exclaim proudly that they are black?
Why couldn’t he say he was white? I wouldn’t have a problem with him saying it..or is it a ploy?
You think when he goes to play golf in georgia that he tells them he is white?
Why not just say i am the biracial candidate?
May 18th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
dave–
Care to give any examples? I looked for “chink” in the archives and in Google, and came up with only 3 examples on this blog, none of which referred to a person: link link link.
So it looks like you’re just a liar.
Because, you half-wit, ethnicity is determined by society, not by the individual. Tiger Woods, Frederick Douglas, Adam Clayton Powell, Booker T. Washington, and Barack Obama all have one thing in common: despite being of mixed heritage, they could not choose to present themselves as white. Image the howls of laughter we’d hear if Obama publicly announced that he is a white man.
I have to tell you, it really bothers me when allegedly non-racist people like you either pretend that racism doesn’t exist, or who immediately accuse anyone who argues against racism of harboring racist thoughts.
May 19th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I’m really a troglodyte but I would guess that (at least in the predominantly white US), being half-black is the distinguishing part of your background. Maybe if he lived in Kenya he’d call himself ‘Coloured’ or something like that.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:07 am
There is huge mainstream support for Obama.
The Democratic primaries only sample part of the population, of course, but there in much of the country especially in the areas with the heaviest percentage of whites, the race of his parents is not a deciding factor. The younger the voter the less of an issue., which is a very good sign for the future of race relations in this country. That race keeps getting inserted into the contest demonstrates that the race issue is not solved by any means, but it really looks to me like it is fading away pretty completely in parts of the mainstream population in a lot of areas.
He is more popular than any white male candidate in those areas and in general more popular than the lone white woman in the race. His appeal is personality and platform. It looks to me like the real distinguishing part of his background is that he is identifiably American in presentation and outlook and speaks directly to the concerns of a very large part of the American population.
We will see how large that part actually is in total between now and November and perhaps if race actually trumps issues in the rest of the population beyond those who participated the Democratic nomination process.

Are we still going to move to Canada when Barak loses and we have 4 more years of a GOP president? I think Demobrats think they have this election in the bag. Their insanity is pretty amusing. You guys always cry about racism and sexism, playing the race card is all you guys know how to do. I hope Hillary supporters stay home come election time…see if Barak has enough supporters voting for him to win, then.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:23 am
I’m not moving to Canada, I’m moving somewhere else. Whether or not a GOP president is in the White House has no bearing on this decision.
Also, Ehud Barak is not eligible for US presidential election
May 21st, 2008 at 10:51 am
The capacity for wingnuts to deny the existence of racism and sexism in the face of incontrovertible evidence is a never-ending source of fascination for me.
May 21st, 2008 at 11:33 am
Not to mention downright frustrating, Gordo.
